Edward VIII was supposedly friends with Adolf Hitler

In 1937, the Duke and Duchess of Windsor paid a visit to Hitler at Berchtesgaden, Hitler’s favorite vacation spot since the 1920’s. Edward VIII gave Hitler full Nazi salutes while he was there. Some argue that the trip was to receive support for Edward and his wife, his actions speak louder than words. The royal family criticized his visit. The Germans thought that the Duke, who they believed was ambivalent towards the war, would be a better ally than King George VI. They wanted to get him on their side, and tried to manipulate the controversial royal, they even tried to convince him that his brother wants to assassinate him.
