Following the major box office success of the original trilogy, the 1999 prequel ‘Star Wars: Episode One – The Phantom Menace’ welcomed the next generation of special effects to the spectacular space saga. Critics were overwhelmingly blown away by the feat achieved by the production team, but just how did they do it?

Of course, it would have been rather difficult to ship Natalie Portman and Ewan McGregor to the mythical planet of Tattooine. With the help of a trusty green screen, the producers transported the cast away from Earth at the flick of a switch – and we were none the wiser!
