Afternoon Tea and Loose Change Sandwiches

Before the Royal family enjoys their formal Christmas dinner, they all gather to have afternoon tea in Sandringham’s White Drawing Room, according to former family chef Darren McGrady. He says that the mandatory part of the tradition is the ‘Jam penny’ sandwich. Darren would make these tiny sandwiches, cut them in circles that are the size of an old English penny (about 1.2 inches in diameter), and stuff them with jam. Besides money-shaped sandwiches, he also baked scones the size of a 50 pence which the Queen loves to feed to her precious corgis.
