Karen Black starred as a kidnapper in Alfred Hitchcock’s last film, Family Plot. As an actress, she was hailed for a number of iconic film roles, particularly in the 1970s, like Five Easy Pieces and the 1974 adaptation of The Great Gatsby.  Her breakout performance came in 1969, with Easy Rider.  The Oscar-nominated actress was diagnosed with ampullary stomach cancer in November 2010.  She died in 2011 at the age of 74 after a long battle with the disease. Her husband, Stephen Eckelberry, announced her death on Facebook.
