Set Sail for the… Car Park?

It may come as a surprise to fans of HBO’s ‘Game of Thrones’ to find that all those scenes of our Westeros favorites sailing to Braavos were in fact filmed in the car park. Yes, the set sure looked realistic, but it was all down to green screens and good old CGI.

The series was a lot more heavily reliant on green screens than we first thought, utilizing them to tackle any hurdle they came across. In this case, perhaps filming at sea would have been too big a drain on the budget – or maybe the cast got seasick? Either way, it was a green screen to the rescue!
