CGI Blizzards and Green Screen Mountains

2015 saw the release of another visual spectacular, this time in the form of the action and adventure epic ‘Everest’. The film is based on the true story of Robert Edwin Hall and Scott Fischer, a team of climbers from New Zealand who climbed Mount Everest in 1996.
For the real-life team, facing brutal blizzards and notoriously treacherous conditions during their ascension was a harsh reality. Recreating these scenes would have been far too dangerous, so green screens were brought in to emulate the mountain slopes from the safety of the movie set. A touch of CGI and we’d never know the difference!
