No Rule Should Be Set in Stone
Up until recently, it was strictly demanded of every Royal family member to attend Christmas celebration in Sandringham. It is because of this rule that the late Princess Diana, Princes William, and Harry’s mother, never spent a single Christmas with her own family, the Spencers, following her wedding with Prince Charles. Prince William and Duchess Kate experienced their first Christmas as a couple at the Sandringham home. However, when Kate was expecting the very next year, they were in Berkshire with her family. In 2014, Prince William and the Duchess attended the two traditional church masses in St. Mary Magdalene Church but afterward hosted lunch at their Anmer Hall residence.
