Time for the Queen’s Speech!

The Queen’s (or King’s) Christmas Message is another tradition well-known in the UK. It is a nationwide broadcast made by the Queen—or the King during the reign of a male monarch—to the Commonwealth realms and Nations. This tradition dates back to 1932 when King George V made the very first Christmas broadcast on the British Broadcasting Corporation’s Empire Service. Elizabeth II continued this tradition since 1952, with the message being simultaneously broadcasted on radio, TV, and the Web. The message itself is usually a chronicle of the previous year’s important events, like 2018’s two royal marriage ceremonies and two babies—one born and one on the way.
