Carole Lombard died in a plane crash in 1942. But she had a great, though brief, career. Her first acting job was A Perfect Crime at age 12. She tried for other acting jobs but wasn’t seen onscreen again for four years. Lombard felt she was better at comedy, so she starred in the full movie, Mr. & Mrs. Smith, in 1941. She was instrumental in getting Alfred Hitchcock to direct the movie, though it was atypical of his film style. It was a commercial success.
